Body armor has been a very loose term for hundreds of years. Back in medieval times body armor was used all the time to protect from cuts and scrapes during battle with swords. Body armor today has evolved into very thin and flexible material that can stop bullets or shrapnel. The most common material used in body armor is Kevlar but new materials are being introduced all the time.

Most police officers use the same ballistic panels as the military but only with a different type of carrier. Some police officers wear the concealable armor that can be worn underneath the uniform, but soldiers usually want body armor to be worn on the outside of the body in conjunction with the tactical vest. Many times police officers will not call it body armor but they will actually just call it their bulletproof vest. Keep in mind that no vest is bulletproof, only bullet resistant.

One of the more advanced body armor systems today would be level 3 and 4 hard armor. There are ceramic, steel, and polyethylene plates that can be stand alone level 4 but most are up to level 4 in conjunction with the use of a level 3a ballistic panel. Level 4 protection will guard against almost any high velocity rifle round. For a complete list of the levels please refer to the NIJ documentation.

If you are ever in the market for body armor or a bullet proof vests take a look at http://www.bulletproofbodyarmorhq.com. This site has a lot of great information, many products, and excellent customer service. This is a very popular site to purchase these items and is a leader in bulletproof vest sales.

Chris B asked:

I know that bio Steel armor is based on using a compound similar to that of spider webs and it is being mass produced by causing goats to produce milk containing the same substances. Also, that this advancement is being used currently to coat kevlar making it even stronger and resistant to stab attacks. Many soldiers can tell you that the body armor being used in Iraq is offers inadequate protection and is heavy. Supposedly this Bio Steel Armor is 4 times stronger than kevlar and much lighter. This could save hundreds of lives. When will this be available and how can someone get it?

Caffeinated Content for WordPress

BH asked:

Simple as could be, those long roll, unflavored and unbasted rawhide chews for dogs. Do you think it would make a suitable material as under-shirt body armor?

The only thing I would foresee trouble with is the stitching the rawhides together while they are still soft, and the rough texture they will have when dried.

But still, would it be useful as a light body armor?

I’m just asking out of curiousity by the way, I’m way too lazy to actually take the work to make it.
I’m not looking to make a bulletproof vest, I’m just amusing myself this late at night with just being curious. if ever I use it I know the most I would take it to would be a small folder knife.

Still, an interesting idea but sort of weird too, right? I’m just wanting to know if other people will think it will work also. I can see it working against small folding knives, like I said, but this is just a brain scratcher kind of question.

Website content
